Kay St. Germaine staff taking temperature and oxygen readings.

Without our team of dedicated ladies and their hard work, we could not open everyday to provide therapy to our patients and individual education tuition to our students.

Our staff, students and patients recognize their dedication to everyone’s safety. Many of the people in our programs are ‘vulnerable’ in terms of their general health. As everyone arrives each morning they meet with Liline & Juna who check if they are coughing, have a temperature, and monitor their oxygen saturation. Adults who are arriving for therapy have their blood pressure measured at this point too.

They ensure that everyone wears a face mask and have washed their hands at our hand-washing stations prior to entering. Janet, Marie, Marie Louse & Yvonne, ensure that there are plenty of clean PPE for all staff members each day. After treating each patient, our therapists change their PPE, disinfect all materials used and the treatment area.

Patients and students attending, have strictly scheduled appointments to ensure that we can apply social distancing measures at Kay St. Germaine. Each day there are lines of PPE billowing in the wind and hot sunshine. Thanks to ESPWA in Ireland and their donors, we have plenty of cotton PPE, which our staff sincerely appreciate and thanks to these wonderful ladies, there is plenty of fresh PPE for each change.

Our teacher’s too are wearing PPE, including face-masks, protective goggles and gowns. We have put this safety measure in place to protect our staff, students and their parents, as many have underlying medical conditions as well as their ‘special needs’. As the numbers of positive Covid-19 (Kowonaviris as it is know in Haiti) have increased steadily over the past week, we are hopeful that all of the precautions, training sessions and guidance we give to staff, students, patients and parents will help to protect them and their families in the coming weeks and months.
